There are no Rats

Rats

  • Cambridge’s inspectional services department surveyed our yard on Feb. 2, 2010 and found no evidence of rats on the property. They found no burrows or tracks and have issued a report on their findings. They suggest that our birds deter rats.
  • To prevent rats from being attracted to the birds, we’ve taken the following precautions:
    • installed a chicken-wire trench around the perimeter of the coop and run, which are completely enclosed
    • suspended bird feeder from a string so that it is inaccessible to rats
    • bird feeder comes in at night; no food is left outdoors overnight
    • kiddie pool has been removed for the winter. In the future the pool will either be drained or covered at night and cleaned frequently.
  • Trashcans in backyard are tightly sealed and emptied weekly.
  • Partially eaten bird eggs have never been found in our yard.
  • Rats have never been encountered while dealing with our trash.
